Ossett School is the first school in its area to offer parental access to its VTLE (Virtual Teaching and Learning Environment) and online student information. The VTLE enables parents to view student information, attendance, assessment and timetable information in real time via a web page. It also provides parents with a forum for discussing school and learning related topics with other parents and also Ossett School staff.

This new facility has been positively received by parents:

The VTLE is a great idea and one which many of my work colleagues whose children go to ***** and ***** are envious of (they don't have anything like this). It is so nice to be able to to find out more about what your son or daughter is doing at school.

The VTLE is a good way for all parents to keep up to date with what is going on with their child's education along with be able to keep up to date things like homework.

We think this is a brilliant idea, so we can keep up to date with their progress.

The school has pioneered integration between its open source VTLE (Moodle) and school management information system, being literally the first school in the UK to use this particular solution. This has been achieved by software developed by Ossett School in partnership with Frederick Gent School and Kettlethorpe High School.

Please note, that from the 15th February 2010 we will not be accepting any more VTLE access requests via email. We will instead be sending out access instructions by letter to all parents who have not yet logged in.

Parents who would like to request access to the VTLE should send an email to webmaster@ossett.wakefield.sch.uk with a subject of "vtle access". Also, please include the following information for identity verification purposes:

• Your fulll name
• Your address and postcode
• Your child's full name
• Your child's date of birth
• Your child's address and postcode if different to yours
• Your child's form and year group

Note: It can take up to 2 working weeks to action your request.
